AND ALSO. because this is mainly an issue about african / african descent headcanons, POC (People / Person Of Color) will not include black people
i dont TRULY believe that 'blackwashing' will ALWAYS be in the right. i think if a characters race plays A LOT into their role such as representing racial injustice towards the characters specific race, etc etc, then yes 'blackwashing' can be considered bad. but if a characters race isnt that big of a deal in the characters writing then i believe 'blackwashing' isnt bad, especially when A LOT of black edits are mixed so that the characters original race isnt removed, and its more like adding more representation.
if we're going to talk about FULLY black headcanons it has to be a character with no confirmed skintone (animal / fictional species) or a character that has taken very heavy inspiration off a black deity, myth, or somebody in history thats black (for example: natlan a region in genshin impact is mainly based off african culture but 99.9% of the characters from natlan are depicted as white) and has been made into a white or poc character
im also going to include the issue where everytime someone headcanons a character as tanned or just. darker than the OG characters skin, people will default to "are u blackwashing [insert character]" because they think if a character isnt pure white, that means the character is black... people sometimes forget that not ALL black people are dark skinned, light skinned individuals exist such as myself.
